What is NoSweat?
NoSweat is a South African freelance marketplace focused on skilled creative, marketing, advertising, film, and IT work. Founded by two SA freelancers who struggled to find local gigs, it now connects vetted professionals to companies like Deloitte, Ogilvy, and M&C Saatchi Abel. Clients post projects with budgets set upfront, NoSweat handles all the admin (invoicing, PAYE, timesheets), and freelancers get paid via EFT. This is not a micro-task platform — it's for people with marketable professional skills.
How It Works
Create a profile at nosweat.co.za and submit your CV or portfolio. NoSweat vets new members, so not everyone gets in. Once approved, you browse job listings that show the start date, duration, skills required, and budget upfront. Apply to projects that match your skills. If selected, NoSweat handles the paperwork: purchase orders, timesheets, invoicing, and PAYE tax. You don't need to send invoices or chase payments yourself. Payment goes to your SA bank account after NoSweat collects from the client. NoSweat charges a 10-13.1% fee to the client, not to you.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- ✓ No fees charged to freelancers — the client pays the platform markup
- ✓ NoSweat handles PAYE and SARS submissions so you don't get a tax headache
- ✓ Access to blue-chip SA clients (Ogilvy, Deloitte, Unilever-level brands)
- ✓ Pay meets or exceeds the Living Wage (Fairwork-assessed at above R43/hour)
- ✓ SA-built platform that understands local tax and banking requirements
Cons
- ✗ Vetting process means you can't just sign up and start — rejection is possible
- ✗ Only useful in creative, marketing, advertising, film, and IT — not general temp work
- ✗ Job volume is lower than global platforms like Upwork or Fiverr
- ✗ Monthly payout cycle can be slow if you need cash quickly
- ✗ Primarily useful in Johannesburg and Cape Town — fewer listings for other cities
